Makar Sankranti Essay - The festival of Makar Sankranti, celebrated with different names and different traditions in different states of India, is completely a religious festival. It is celebrated when the Sun enters Capricorn. It is worth noting that in our astrology, twelve zodiac signs have been considered. One of these zodiac signs is 'Capricorn'. Whereas Sankranti means transition/entering. That is, on this day the Sun enters Capricorn from Sagittarius. This displacement process of the Sun leaving one zodiac sign is called Sankranti. Every year this process of displacement of the Sun takes place on 14 or 15 January. Therefore, this day is celebrated as the festival of Makar Sankranti all over India.
